What the Kansas SOS will and won’t apostille
- The document must be issued by a Kansas public authority (KDHE, a Kansas court, the Kansas SOS business office, a Kansas school) or notarized by a Kansas-commissioned notary.
- Birth, death, and marriage records must be certified copies from the Kansas Office of Vital Statistics (KDHE), not hospital or church copies.
- Court judgments need the signing official’s printed name on Form DC.
- Foreign-language documents are fine if the notarial certificate is in English.

A note from our side of the counter
Kansas is our home state. Topeka is a two-hour drive from Wichita, so for a genuine rush we can hand-carry documents to the Docking building and wait, rather than trusting the mail both ways. For everything else we coordinate by mail and track it.
What we can’t do
We can’t apostille a document the Kansas SOS won’t accept, and we won’t pretend otherwise. We can’t speed up the state’s clock; our tiers speed up ours. We’re not attorneys and can’t tell you whether a foreign authority will accept a given document, though we’ll tell you what we’ve seen work. If your document is federal (FBI, USCIS, IRS, FDA), it goes to the U.S. Department of State instead, and we route it there.

Can you apostille a Kansas document if I’m in Wichita?
